Lamar Advertising formed Interstate Graphics in 1992 to produce silkscreen posters for the then 32 Lamar plants. In 1996, Lamar went public, and IG went digital with one Xerox E-stat printer. By early 1998, committed to in-house digital production, IG had installed four high-speed 9dpi airbrush printers. In 1999, IG proudly became Lamar Graphics, focusing squarely on digital vinyl production, and expanding its product line to include high-resolution 70dpi output. By the end of 1999, output had increased to 500,000 square feet per month, with dramatic quality increases. The millennium
brought with it a commitment to even higher resolution.
A Vutek 2360 was installed to service our 360dpi transit and self-adhesive
markets, and our Hi-Res billboard machines were upgraded to 150dpi. The year ended great, with productivity, revenues
and profitability far exceeding budgets. In 2001,
responding to shifting demands, more 150dpi machines were added, and 9pdi production was
phased out. Mirroring Lamars phenomenal
growth, LG had grown to a capacity of 1 million square feet per month, operating 24/7, and
offering every resolution requirement. Supported
by a strong and focused management team, over 90 dedicated and skilled employees, and the
largest prepress department in the South, Lamar Graphics was on the way to fulfilling its
promise. In 2002, we
opened LG Las Vegas to service Lamars Western Region.
Meanwhile, a comprehensive production area renovation in Baton Rouge allowed
production increases to 1.2 million square feet per month, establishing LG as not only the
largest printing arm of any outdoor company, but one of the largest producers of digital
vinyl billboards anywhere. In 2003,
incorporating automated production processes, LGs capacity grew once again, to well
over 1.5 million square feet/month. A new
state-of-the-art office, training and creative facility is now being built in Baton Rouge,
and a new production facility, LG Columbus (Ohio) will come on line in the third quarter. Online
ordering, online order tracking and proofing, and a customer service department that is
second-to-none, link our customers to The LG World. Forward thinking technological innovation and the obsessive need to improve drives Lamar Graphics quest to provide unparalleled levels of customer service, product quality, and productivity, delivering value to Lamar shareholders, and high quality digital vinyl production to the 189 plants comprising the most dynamic outdoor company in America.
