News Flash: DigiCAP Multiple Designs vs. Versions

DigiCAP was processing multiple designs for a single order as versions instead of designs while the new web site was being built. This was done because the previous order entry system was very difficult to use and would frequently crash before the completion of a multi-design order. This caused many problems internally for Lamar Graphics, but was justifiable as a convenience to our customers since the old system could not provide a better work around to accommodate these requests. This method made it easy to order multiple DigiCAP orders, but made revisions to these jobs difficult and very confusing to organize.

This was a big reason why the shopping cart was introduced with the new system. The shopping cart makes ordering multi-design orders much easier and much more reliable. It provides an easy way to see and edit what you are ordering in real time. It is also very reliable. You can now reload orders in progress in the event of a system crash or internet interruptions. Gone are the days when you would loose an order after entering 15 of the 20 designs being requested!

In order to utilize all the advantages of this new system, we have to process multi-design orders as they were originally intended. Which requires these jobs to be ordered as individual designs now. (ex: 001, 002, 003, 004, etc. NOT 001a, 001b, 001c, etc.) We do realize this may not be as convenient to our customers as the letter version method, but it does provide some key advantages.

1. It will allow us to properly track how many LDD orders are being processed. This will provide crucial data in helping us adequately staff up to meet the rising demands for LDD content.

2. It will provide a more accurate way to archive and store each design, whether it was used or not. (Some versions were being deleted in the past. This method should alleviate most of those situations.)

3. It will make ordering revisions much more easy to track and organize for us and our customers.

4. It will allow us to accurately track what art is being used or not used.

We've weighed the pros and cons to both methods and feel strongly that although this is not as convenient as the work around we were using, this new method provides us the necessary intelligence needed to be better prepared for every stage of this rapidly growing digital display medium.
